In the time before blown diffusers and F-ducts there was just raw speed mixed with adrenaline. Even with all their aero a fast car could overcome gravity if your driver had to stones to stay flat.Getting airborne probably wasn't part of the formula, but hey they didn't call them pilots for nothing.
